Some advice when you are considering moving to Uruguay

Rent for a while before buying.
Rent a place in Pocitos (Montevideo) and from there research other areas. Pocitos is a safe place with excellent public but transportation to everywhere. You will not need a car staying there.
Do not underestimate winter in Uruguay, bring cloth according to the season.
When bringing more than 10 thousand dollars cash or in metals declare them in customs before leaving the port or airport.
When planning to open a bank account, get advice before coming of the documents you would need to bring.
